About Robotic Librarian

Welcome to my Underground Infosphere.

Robotic Librarian is the online face of steven szegedi a.k.a. Vaucanson’s Duck, future archivist/librarian and recent graduate of Dominican University. On May 8th, 2008, I was formally presented with a Masters of Library and Information Science, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

I hope one day to work for a museum, public library or academic library, ideally in the guise of a Special Collections director, or even more simply, Archivist. And on another (not too far off) day I hope to earn a doctorate, perhaps through a matching grant or continuing education program administered by a loving and supportive employer. No matter what I do, I realize that so far I’m closer to an eighteenth century automata than a fully realized being; I probably have a few more lifetimes to go.

collage by Steven Szegedi,

I am extremely grateful to everyone who has helped me refine my focus, and given me advice on selecting a career path. I left the book world somewhat reluctantly, and while my move to Chicago has vastly broadened my available opportunities, it has also surrounded me with innumerable talented and knowledgeable people who I am reluctant to compete with. Most everyone I met at Dominican and through my works impresses me with their focus, dedication and vision.

I currently work for my school, under the supervision of Sister Jeanne Crapo, O.P., as Assistant Archivist in our all-too-young Archives and Special Collections room. I have authored a website for the University Archives, but the link on our library homepage has yet to emerge. As soon as it does I will let you know.

I am also working on a fairly large paper that I hope to publish by the end of the year, and I will be giving an address on archival collection policies in June, in conjunction with the McGreal Center. Now I just need to find stable work, and finish my application for the Y and start exercising again.

Thank you so much for visiting. If you are interested, here is a .pdf of my résumé. I will hopefully be posting several of my papers as well in the coming months. Cheers!

It is right that he too should have his little chronicle, his memories, his reason, and be able to recognize the good in the bad, the bad in the worst, and so grow gently old down all the unchanging days, and die one day like any other day, only shorter.

Hello. I write a blog for Otis College of Art and Design called The “O” Observed. Your post about book binding came up in my Google alerts and I just posted a mention of it. I also used one of the images from your post in mine and I wanted to verify that this is alright. I quite enjoyed reading your piece.

    Cheers,

    Marc

STEVE. I just googled you to see if any of your collage work is online. I still have the one you made for me (penguins, food, and a fabulous neon frame). I wanted to see if you have an online gallery or a real gallery or anything. Hope you’re doing well - I’d love to see some of your projects! Please send. Yes. Ok. Hope you’re doing exceedingly well.

    bye now,
    Katie
